This book explores the question: "Why did Eurasian civilizations developed advanced technology, political systems, and military power, enabling them to dominate other parts of the world like Africa, America, and Australia, rather than the other way around?" Instead of attributing these differences to racial factors, Diamond says that environmental factors, such as the availability of domesticable plants and animals, the geography and the climate, were the main reasons for this result.
